All That Glitters

The Nomadic Existence of a Travelling Showgirl.

I’ve been dreaming up this concept for years and it was only once I’d found the perfect outfit, a sequinned Zara two piece, that it all started to come together.

My storyboard would feature a free spirited girl who wanted to escape the humdrum of city life theatres and take to the nomadic life on the road to perform where she chooses. The experience would bring her a sense of peace and inner calm, a grounding contentment that only comes from spending time alone…

I knew the perfect location to set the scene.

The landowner where I keep Raffy had recently purchased a shepherds hut which would be ideal as the ‘home on wheels’ my depicted performer would be living in. Originally they would have been used for shepherds wanting to rest their heads and escape from the elements during lambing season. The bed would accomodate space underneath for sickly lambs and the wood burning stove would provide the welcome heat for warmth and basic cooking. For our performer, the storage would house her oufits, hats and make up and the doors would open up to let the light in and allow the neighbouring animals to visit.

The life of a showgirl is anything but dull, but it is after the curtain has gone down and the show is over that you get to see her true radiating self. The sequins are shed, the hair is let down and a dance in the sun’s afterglow occurs.

I’d love to know what you think, so please do leave a comment!
