A secret garden party of childhood dreams.
Arriving at the beautiful Findon Place, a stunning Georgian Manor House, I followed the sound of voices and crunched my way along a gravel pathway until I arrived at a closed gate with a swinging peephole cover. Moving it to one side revealed a bustling hive of activity and a whole lot of vegetables.
The shoot was the brainchild of the wonderful Michelle Shepheard of Gracefully Grazing and I had been asked to join the talented group of creatives and capture the children’s party as it unfolded.
Within the walled orchard, all areas were beautifully decorated with vintage books and gardening items as well as bright candles, candlesticks and coloured glass bottles. The main table featured hand-illustrated invitations at each place setting with hand-written quotes from the books spread throughout the tablescape. Vintage watering cans filled with colourful blooms, and real moss ran the length of the table and pretty quaint lanterns were strung overhead. Hessian flooring and huge cushions scattered the floor and gave the party guests something soft to sit on.
The arriving children, aged between 18 months - 5 years, really didn’t know where to investigate first.
Would they head to Mr McGregor’s garden or hoopla ‘Catch-a Carrot’, play hide and seek amongst the apple trees or throw veg into ‘Veg Patch Valley’.
An hour was spent playing the games and exploring before it was time to sit down and eat the feast of delights that had been made. Carrot and toadstool biscuits, chocolate seedling cakes and tomato macarons, sandwiches, hummus and a huge array of veggies of course!
The cake was brought out as the sun was setting, happy birthday was sung and the children made their farewells with tummies full and a host of happy memories.
